8. What operating systems will the Adesso keyboards operate on?

1. My keyboard did not come with drivers and I don’t see any on your web site.

Most of the Adesso keyboards do NOT require drivers. They use the standard drivers for either Mac or PC and the appropriate driver should be selected when you reboot your computer after installing the new keyboard. For PC keyboards, the keyboard is connected to the PS/2 keyboard port. Windows will automatically select the Standard 101/102 keyboard driver. You can manually select this driver if it does not automatically configure upon rebooting your computer. If your touchpad does not work, be sure that it is connected to a separate PS/2 mouse (green) port. For multimedia Internet keyboards, the drivers are on a CD that shipped with your keyboard. If they were damaged or misplaced, please check the web-site for the driver needed here:
Adesso Drivers Page. If you cannot find an appropriate driver, please send a e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

2. I have keycaps that have broken off, what do I do?

The first thing to do is to call us 800-795-6788 so that we could send out new key cap(s). This saves time and money as you will not need to ship the keyboard back to us. We can send out new key cap(s) if you provide a mailing address and confirm the model of the keyboard and the key cap(s) that you need. You should be able to snap the key cap back onto the key stem. Should any bits of plastic be stuck in the key stem, they can usually be scraped out with something thin. You could also e-mail your information to:

3. Are your PC Keyboards compatible with all versions of Windows?

Most of our PC keyboards are compatible with Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2000, ME, NT, 98, 95. Our Multimedia PC keyboards require Windows 98 and above as well as certain sound cards and CD-Rom drives for complete performance.

4. What is the difference between Tru-Form and NU-Form?

Tru-Form and NU-Form are BOTH split-key design keyboards. Both have extra-deep wrist support across the entire width of the keyboard. NU-Form, however, is flat like a traditional keyboard. Tru-Form has a slope, or contour, of the main keying section that puts your hands and wrists at about a 40 to 45 degree angle. Tru-Form is ideal for those who do a great deal of keying and who know where the keys are, i.e., are touch typists. NU-Form is an excellent all around ergonomic keyboard for those who do some keying, some spread sheets and some browsing. Our two Multimedia/Internet Keyboards are flat, similar to NU-Form. With either split-key design keyboard, the benefit of simply moving the elbows away from the torso relieves a great deal of the stress associated with traditional keyboards.

5. What are the special Windows 98 Keys: Power, Wake and Sleep?

The three keys in the upper right-hand area of the Windows keyboard are there for use with Windows 98 and above. You should consult your Windows manual or help screen for more detailed information on using these keys. If you are not using the POWER key, you might want to disable it, especially on Multimedia/Internet keyboards. This can be done one of two ways: At the BIOS level, disabling the ACPI functions will cause all three functions to be disabled. Or go to the Control Panel, Settings, Power Manager, Advanced, Change Power Setting to “Suspend”.

6. I only have one PS/2 port available on my computer, and I need two to hook up the touchpad keyboard.

Some of our Adesso keyboards require two PS/2 ports for proper operation. They will NOT work with any type of serial (DB-9) adapter. To solve this problem with most common on laptops and legacy desktop computer, we have available a PS/2 to USB adapter. The adapter will connect both PS/2 ports for the touchpad keyboard into one USB port. You can purchase this product from our online store:
www.adesso-shop.com Part No. ADP-PU21.

7. When I connect my Adesso keyboard to a laptop computer, the keyboard may not be detected.

This issue may occur if you connect the keyboard to the PS/2 port on the laptop computer.
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:

1) Use a PS/2-to-USB adapter with internal resistors to connect the keyboard to the PS/2 port on the laptop computer. You can purchase this product from our online store:
www.adesso-shop.com Part No. ADP-PU21.
2) Connect the keyboard to the USB port on the laptop computer.

8. What operating systems will the Adesso keyboards operate on?

The keyboards will operate on any USB-equipped IBM compatible PC running Windows 98SE/WinNT*, 2000, ME and XP. Also if the keyboard is for MAC OS, usually they should work for the latest MacOS if it's a keyboard designed for Mac's.
*Windows NT does not support USB devices.

    11. I receive this error message when installing the tablet driver for Windows. "16 bit window subsystem; C:windows/system32/Autoexec.NT This system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Application.
It sounds like you have a program called "WINDUPDATE.EXE" in your computer. It is a program like a virus that some site has put in your computer to make you purchase updated programs, ones that will operate with XP's 32 bit system. What is causes is the deleting of your AUTOEXEC.NT file every time you boot your computer. Without this AUTOEXEC.NT file you can't run old 16 bit programs which were developed for Windows 98 or earlier. You can search in your computer to try and find this WINDUPDATE.EXE file and delete it or you can download the freeadware eliminating program, AD-Aware SE Personal 1.05, that finds and can remove these security threats. You can find it at www.lavasoft.com. Also many articles say the AUTOEXEC.NT file is in your C:\windows\system32\ folder but sometimes your computer manufacturer put it in the C:\WINNT\ system\ folder. It the latter case your C:windows\ folder won't have a system32 folder. If you install and run this ad-ware program it will find almost every little adware file in your computer and remove them. Unless you get rid of this WINDUPDATE.EXE file it will keep deleting the AUTOEXEC.NT file and you will have to restore it constantly. If you do not find the autoexec.nt file, do a general web search on it. After this you should find autoexec.nt in the c:\window\repair file (download the zip file from the web first, so you have a back up), and enter it into a blank space in the c:\windows\system32 file, then you should be led to the download wizard (by loading the cd in the c: drive.)

This is not a tablet driver issue. If the tablet driver is in your add/remove programs, that is good, and does not have an effect on the connection. When you insert the cable on top of the CyberPad , you must hear a click sound to assure that it is plugged in correctly. Do not pay attention to the green blinking light on the CyberPad when trying to connect. It will flash when there is contact made , but that does not mean there is a solid connection. Finally, you should receive a removable disk drive in My computer once you are connected. Please email Technical support at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 6. Is the CyberPad directly compatible with Microsoft One Note?
No, it is not compatible with Microsoft One Note.

    7. Why wont the Cybertablet bundled software load on my Mac?
The Cybertablet (although Mac compaitble) does not come with bundled Mac software. The software included is only PC compaitble. The Cybertablet 8600A and the Cybertablet 12000A both include Adobe Photoshop elements which is Mac compatible.

    1. How do I clean my ball mouse?

To clean your mouse, please perform the following steps:
    1. Turn off your computer and unplug the Adesso Mouse.
    2. Clean the ball with mild detergent and warm water. Dry with a soft cloth.
    3. Clean the steel rollers inside the socket with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. You may use tweezers to remove any debris.
    4. Allow the Adesso Mouse to dry thoroughly.
    5. Plug your Adesso Mouse back in and turn your computer on.

    2. Pointer moves too fast/slow or mouse pad to small.

The mouse speed setting determines the rate at which the pointer moves across the screen as you move the mouse. Mouse speed is a user-adjustable setting which is usually set in the mouse control panel, depending on your mouse driver software. If you have to pick up your mouse too often in order to move the pointer across the screen, your mouse speed setting is probably set too low.

    3. Single click works, but double-click doesn't.

When this problem occurs, it is usually because the double-click speed is set too high. Try setting it lower. Double-click speed is a user-adjustable setting usually found in the mouse control panel, depending on your driver version.

    4. Can I connect a serial mouse via adapter to PS/2-Port?

No, PS/2 and serial mouses use different communication protocols and signal levels and they can't be generally used in other interface just by changing the plug. You can only connect PS/2 mouse or mouse which supports both Serial and PS/2. Refer to the label on the backside of your mouse. There must be printed PS/2 or Serial + PS/2.

    5. Pointer moves erratically/computer behaves unpredictably/keyboard locks up.

If your mouse is connected to a PS/2-style mouse port, then try moving the mouse to a serial port. In some cases, the port may not be 100% compatible with the original IBM PS/2 mouse port, and older Genius Systems mice may be overly strict about adhering to that standard, such that erratic pointer movement may result. Move the mouse to a serial port to see if this alleviates the problem. Make sure the power is off when unplugging the mouse from the round PS/2-style mouse port. This type of behavior can also be caused by poor grounding. Make sure your mouse, computer, and building are grounded properly.

    7. KVM Related: The mouse pointer runs over the monitor screen, opens several windows, and starts applications when I move my mouse. How is this possible?

Most of the KVM-switches are designed for common 2 button mice and are not able to function with wheel mice and trackbals. This is caused by the fact that wheel mice and trackbals use a different data protocol. Please ask about this when you order a KVM switch. Using Windows 2000 or XP might cause problems because the standard wheel detection is enabled. Disable this feature when your KVM switch can’t handle wheel mice.

    8. Can I use multiple mice at the same time?

Yes, if they are USB mice that do not require special software. If they are plug an play, then our mouse will work with other mice or our other touchpad mice.

    9. How can I download the latest driver?

We put latest drivers in the Drivers section of our web-site. Check the description for each driver, so you download the correct one.

    10. How do I get a RMA to get my mouse serviced?

E-mail our technical support team and they will issue you a RMA number so as to get your Adesso product serviced. Click Here:

    1. How do I eject my CD-ROM using this Mac keyboard?

The method used to open the CD/DVD tray depends upon the version of Mac OS

In MacOS X and up, simply press F12 to open the CD-ROM drive.
    In MacOS 9
    There are two methods:
o Use the Eject application program.
o Use the Eject portion of the Control Strip.
These two files are located in the Eject Extras folder located in the Apple Extras folder (in the Applications folder). See more detailed instructions in the "About Eject Extras" document, which is located in the Eject Extras folder. There are also macro keys to do most all of the functions. Adesso Driver Page

    3. My Apple Pro Mouse does not work with Adesso's keyboard USB port.

There is a known open issue with Apple's mice, they seem to have made the Apple Pro mouse work well with only Apple's keyboards. The workaround to this is to simply plug the mouse into the computer directly or to purchase one of our premium Mac mice. You can see our MacOS mice on our online store:
    www.adesso-shop.com

    4. I upgraded my MacOS 9 or OS X 10.5 , and now my multimedia buttons do not function. (AKB-820MAC, MCK-810, AKB-805MAC)

We have a newly developed driver that resolves this open issue. Please visit our driver's page to download the latest driver. Here is the direct link:
    Adesso Drivers Page

    5. How do I eject the CD-ROM using my Adesso keyboard?

To eject the CD tray, try the following:

Most simple is to use the F12 key. 99% of the time this will open and close the CD tray. Please wait for the command to generate a response. There is a delay built-in to prevent accidental drive openings. With Power Mac G4 computers whose keyboard does not have an eject key, the method used to open the CD/DVD tray depends upon the version of Mac OS.

Mac OS 9 There are two methods:

o Use the Eject application program. Download it here.

o Use the Eject portion of the Control Strip.

These two files are located in the Eject Extras folder located in the Apple Extras folder (in the Applications folder). See more detailed instructions in the "About Eject Extras" document, which is located in the Eject Extras folder.

Mac OS X: Press and hold down F12 for 1 second.

    6. How do I change the default programs for my Intellimedia Pro (AKB-805MAC)?

Go into the program you wish to use, for example your e-mail client or internet broweser program and change the settings within the program to make that program the default program. The updated software program for the AKB-805MAC opens the default program when the multimedia buttons. The PF keys can be programmed to your liking in the Preferences-->Mmkbd Program.

    7. How come I can't get the CD-ROM to startup?

The driver cannot handle the boot from CD option: this is done by the computer firmware (called BIOS on a PC), before the OS is loaded. This is similar to the issue where the driver cannot power on the computer from the power on key. I've tried it on my laptop and it does not work from third party keyboards, unless an Apple keyboard is plugged in. I suspect that somehow the firmware is checking the presence of an apple USB keyboard before enabling "boot from CD when C is pressed on USB keyboard".

    8. My Apple Pro Mouse does not seem to work in my Adesso keyboard.

There is a conflict between the USB connector used on the new Apple mice and the existing hubs on current Adesso keyboards. It appears that Apple made the Apple Pro Mouse to work well only with the Apple Keyboards. The work around to this is, you must connect the mouse directly to the iMac hubs.

    9. How come the Adesso keyboard does not turn on the computer?

That is a feature that only Apple keyboards are able to do since this is part of the firmware and the power to the keyboard is constantly on if the computer is plugged in. The Adesso Mac Keyboards are able to turn off the computer, however turning them on is only done on the original Apple keyboards.

    I/O Accessory

    ADP-PU21

You can purchase this product from our online store: www.adesso-shop.com Part No. ADP-PU21.

    2. When I connect my Adesso keyboard to a laptop computer, the keyboard may not be detected.
